Abstract

The integration of information and communication technologies into teaching and learning, as well as the use of artificial intelligence by students and teachers, are structurally disrupting higher education. The objective of this study was to analyze the perceptions of university students about digital competences, taking into account the factors of: Knowledge, security, importance and functionality of resources; in addition, it was determined to what extent these factors are necessary conditions in the level of self-reported digital competence. The descriptive design was applied, with the Survey method and a questionnaire with a Likert scale; the sample was non-probabilistic and incidental, made up of 2, 321 students from 17 universities located in various regions of Peru. The data were processed through variance analysis, principal component analysis, linear regression and analysis of necessary conditions. The results indicate that students have a medium command with a tendency towards a high level of self-reported digital competence, with no significant differences in terms of gender. It is concluded that knowledge about digital technologies is a necessary but not sufficient condition to develop a good level of digital competence.
