Abstract
Objetive: To identify the etiologic agents and determine the contribution of the culture in the diagnosis of dermatophytosis. The study: Diagnosis of dermatophytosis using direct examination and culture. Findings: Of the 50 isolates, 60% and 22% were from Trichophyton rubrum and Microsporum canis, while the sensitivity and specificity of the culture was 82.6% and 92.5%. Conclusion: The culture showed to be less sensitive and more specific with respect to the direct examination, with the advantage of isolating the causative agent causing dermatophytosis..
